Barnaby Shaw has been working with the Southbank Centre for the past 6 years, initially supporting Mikey Tomkins, Andrew Hinton and John Chapple with the Royal Festival Hive – a scaled down hive in the style of the Royal Festival Hall.
In 2008 Barnaby took responsibility for the Royal Festival Hive, and increased the apiary to 3 hives.
Now, as a Bee Urban project, we continue to manage the apiary and are working, with support from the Southbank Centre, to have an observation hive reading for viewing on the QE Hall Roof Garden in 2015.
For the Hayward Gallery’s summer 2014 Human Factor Exhibition, Bee Urban was excited to manage the bees for Pierre Huyghe’s sculptural piece, as seen below.
