Camberwell Subterranea Apiary

John Ruskin St, SE5 0XH

Camberwell Subterranea is community gardening and bicycle recycling project, developed by Bee Urban, on a disused basement level garage site on the Brandon Estate. For more information about the project please follow this link to the Camberwell Subterranea page.

Not wanting to miss out on an opportunity for a healthy apiary site, we installed the first hive on top of the estate utility building in February 2012. In 2013 we increased this to 2 hives. These hives are managed by volunteer Nicolas Knittel and are clearly visible from John Ruskin Street, just near the junction with Camberwell New Road.

Nicolas talks you through the hives and extraction of the honey from Camberwell Subterranea in this short film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Znvzpoewhpo

Honey from Camberwell Subterranea’s 2014 harvest is available on site and from Bee Urban, both at events and at the Bee Barn in Kennington Park.
